A traditional holiday dinner
During the holiday seasons, food reigns supreme. Between roast turkeys and holiday cookies, candy canes and dancing sugarplums, one’s appetite runs amok. And so does our appetite for films about food. But what do professional chefs see when it comes to food films? What sort of cinematic culinary treats whet their appetites? We asked five noted chefs and food writers to list their five favorite films about food. And not to limit them, we asked them to put any type of film (from agriculture documentary to haute cuisine fantasy) on their menu.
Dan Barber of Blue Hill Farm, who has spent years teaching about the relationship between farming and good food, was named James Beard’s Outstanding Chef in 2009. Suzanne Goin has been the creative force behind such award-winning Los Angeles restaurants as Lucques, A.O.C., The Hungry Cat, and most recently Tavern. London’s Oliver Rowe has been celebrated for his local-based cooking at Konstam and Konstam at The Prince Albert as well as his celebrity appearance on Urban Chef.
