Selick at SXSW and Fukunaga at NYC Apple Store
This month, the directors of Focus Features' most recent release, Coraline, and its next upcoming film, Sin Nombre, will be making special appearances to talk about their movies.
Much of the attention of the film (and music) world will be turned to Austin during March as SXSW '09 gets under way in Austin, TX. On top of the numerous great films and bands festival attendees can check out are a number of panels, and this year one of the most interesting is bound to be Robert Rodriguez and Henry Selick: A Conversation From the Third Dimension. Selick, the director of Coraline, the first stop motion movie to be shot in 3D, will be in conversation with Austin resident Robert Rodriguez, who has himself directed a couple of 3D movies, Spy Kids 3D: Game Over and The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D. The event, which will be moderated by Charles Ramirez-Berg, Professor of Film Studies at the University of Texas Austin, takes place on March 16 at 3pm.
On March 26, Sin Nombre helmer Cary Joji Fukunaga is the latest featured guest taking part in indieWIRE's series of filmmaker talks at the NYC's Apple Store SoHo. indieWIRE's editor-in-chief Eugene Hernandez will be in conversation with Fukunaga about the process of making Sin Nombre, his debut feature about immigrants trying to make it to the promised land of U.S. soil, which will be released by Focus Features on March 20. You can get full details of the event here.
